Hair Transplant in Turkey

Hair of Istanbul is a licensed hair transplant clinic in Istanbul, operating since 2013 with a multidisciplinary medical team and more than 13 years of clinical experience.

Your graft plan and hairline are designed by a consultant plastic surgeon, and every patient is medically screened — blood tests, ECG, and review by a cardiologist and a specialist anaesthesiologist — before a surgical date is confirmed. All-inclusive packages start at €4,000.

Each case is assessed on the pattern of hair loss, donor capacity, hair shaft characteristics, age and facial proportions. The aim is not density alone, but a result that holds its balance as native hair changes over the years — natural direction, age-appropriate placement and long-term aesthetic harmony.

Our clinic in Istanbul and our consultation office in Dubai operate in line with medical safety standards, ethical principles and international patient care protocols.

Our Medical Team

At Hair of Istanbul, hair restoration is carried out by a team of specialist doctors. Each procedure is planned under the supervision of a plastic surgeon, monitored with an anaesthesiologist present, and performed by a medical aesthetics physician; patient safety is supported by cardiology specialists.

Surgeon-Led Planning

Your graft plan and hairline design are prepared by Dr Ahmet Dilber, Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon, before a procedure is scheduled. Planning is not delegated to patient coordinators. The hairline is drawn and agreed with you in person before anything begins.

Preoperative Medical Screening
Preoperative Medical Screening

Every patient undergoes blood tests and an ECG, reviewed by our cardiologist and specialist anaesthesiologist, before a surgical date is confirmed. Where screening identifies a contraindication, the procedure is postponed or advised against. Patients who are not suitable are told so.

Natural-Looking Hairline Planning

Your hairline is planned to match your facial proportions and age-appropriate aesthetics, so the result looks natural from different angles and in different lighting. Technique selection and graft placement are tailored to your donor capacity and hair characteristics. Results and timelines vary by patient.

What a treatment day looks like. Consultation and hairline design take 45 to 60 minutes. Extraction runs two to three hours, with grafts held in cooled preservation solution while recipient sites are prepared. Implantation takes a further two to three hours.

A full day runs seven to nine hours including breaks, under local anaesthesia. You leave with your donor area dressed, medication issued and your aftercare protocol explained in your own language.

Most patients stay three days in Istanbul: screening and planning on day one, the procedure on day two, first wash and aftercare briefing on day three.

How many grafts will I need?

Graft count depends on two things: how much area needs coverage, and how much your donor area can safely give. The table below is a planning guide based on the Norwood scale. Your actual figure is set after assessment.

Norwood stage Typical pattern Indicative grafts Package
II Slight recession at the temples 1,200 – 1,800 €4,000
III Defined M-shaped hairline 1,800 – 2,500 €4,000
IV Recession plus crown thinning 2,500 – 3,200 €4,500
V Bridge between front and crown narrowing 3,000 – 3,800 €4,500 – €5,000
VI Bridge lost, large connected area 3,800 – 4,500 €5,000
VII Limited donor relative to area Staged planning required Assessed individually

Indicative ranges only. Donor density, hair calibre, colour contrast and curl all affect how much coverage a given graft count achieves. Estimate your own requirement with the hair graft calculator, or read how graft numbers are decided.

We do not apply a fixed graft cap. The number used is what the plan requires and what your donor area can safely support — assessed against long-term donor preservation, not a package limit.

FUE, DHI or Sapphire — which technique is right?

All modern techniques extract follicles the same way. What differs is how the recipient sites are opened and how grafts are placed. The right choice depends on your donor characteristics, the area being treated and the density target — not on price.

Technique How sites are made Best suited to Consider
FUE Micro-motor extraction, steel blade incisions Large sessions, broad coverage The established baseline technique
Sapphire FUE Sapphire-tipped blades, finer channels Dense packing, reduced channel trauma Site geometry is highly controllable
DHI Implanter pen, no pre-made incisions Hairline detail, unshaven work, eyebrows Slower, so session sizes are smaller
SLIT Pre-made slits, manual placement Angle and direction control on the crown Often combined with FUE
FUT Strip harvest Rarely indicated today Leaves a linear donor scar

Most plans combine methods — for example DHI along the hairline for detail and Sapphire FUE behind it for volume. Read more on how DHI and FUE compare and the full range of hair transplant methods.

What medical screening do you carry out before surgery?

Every patient is screened before a surgical date is confirmed. This is a clinical requirement, not an optional extra, and it is the step most often skipped elsewhere.

Assessment What it checks Reviewed by
Blood panel Full blood count, clotting profile, infectious screen, ferritin, thyroid function Medical team
ECG Cardiac rhythm and conduction Cardiologist
Anaesthesia review Allergies, medication interactions, anticoagulant management Anaesthesiologist
Follicle and donor analysis Donor density, hair calibre, scalp condition Surgeon
Hairline design Facial proportions, age-appropriate placement, long-term balance Surgeon

Where screening identifies a contraindication, surgery is postponed or advised against. See our preparation guide and read about our multidisciplinary medical team.

What does recovery look like?

Period What to expect
Days 1–3 Swelling around the forehead is common. Sleep on your back with the head elevated. First wash performed at the clinic.
Days 4–10 Crusting forms and gradually clears with the prescribed washing routine. Redness begins to fade.
Days 10–14 Most crusting resolved. Many patients return to routine activity. Light exercise can usually resume.
Weeks 3–6 Shedding of transplanted hairs — expected, and not a sign of failure.
Months 3–4 New growth begins. Early growth is fine and may look uneven.
Months 6–8 Density becomes visible. See what eight months typically looks like.
Months 12–15 Hair thickens and matures to its final appearance.

Timelines vary between patients. Full detail in our recovery timeline and growth stages guides.

Is it safe to have a hair transplant in Turkey?

Safety depends on the clinic, not the country. Turkey has both excellent surgical teams and high-volume operations where medical oversight is thin. The questions that separate them are practical:

Risks exist in any surgical procedure — temporary redness, swelling, folliculitis or infection. Choosing a regulated provider and following aftercare reduces avoidable risk. If a previous procedure has gone badly, revision surgery is often possible depending on remaining donor capacity; read about what can go wrong and why.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a hair transplant cost in Turkey?

At Hair of Istanbul, a hair transplant costs between €4,000 and €5,000 as an all-inclusive package. The price is set by the number of grafts required, not by the technique used, so there is no surcharge for DHI, Sapphire or SLIT.

Specialised procedures such as eyebrow and scar restoration start from €2,000. Across Turkey more widely, prices vary considerably between clinics.

How much is a 3,000-graft hair transplant?

A 3,000-graft procedure falls within our 2,500–3,500 graft package and is priced at €4,500, all-inclusive.

That works out at roughly €1.50 per graft, compared with £3–£5 in the United Kingdom and $4–$7 in the United States.

How many grafts will I need?

The number depends on the extent and pattern of your hair loss and on your donor capacity. Most patients with a receding hairline and mid-scalp thinning fall between 2,500 and 3,500 grafts.

Your Norwood stage gives a useful starting estimate, but a definitive figure is only set after our surgeon has assessed your photographs or examined you in person.

What is included in the price?

Our packages are all-inclusive: preoperative blood tests and screening, the procedure itself using DHI, Sapphire or SLIT, medication, one PRP session, aftercare products and follow-up. Accommodation and transfers are also covered.

There are no technique-based surcharges and no additional fees after booking. A refundable €500 deposit secures your date.

Who performs the procedure at Hair of Istanbul?

Graft planning and hairline design are carried out by Dr Ahmet Dilber, Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon. The procedure is performed by our medical team under his plan, with anaesthesia overseen by a specialist anaesthesiologist.

Planning is not delegated to sales coordinators. The hairline is drawn and agreed with you before anything begins.

What medical checks do you carry out before surgery?

Every patient undergoes a full blood panel and an ECG before a surgical date is confirmed. Findings are reviewed by our cardiologist, and a specialist anaesthesiologist assesses allergies, medication interactions and anticoagulant management.

Donor analysis and hairline design are carried out by the surgeon. Where screening identifies a contraindication, the procedure is postponed or advised against.

Am I a suitable candidate for a hair transplant?

Most patients aged 18 to 60 with genetic, hormonal or stress-related hair loss can be assessed. Suitability depends on whether your hair loss is stable, whether your donor area has adequate capacity, and whether underlying causes such as thyroid disorders or iron deficiency have been ruled out.

Some patients are advised against surgery, or advised to wait. Where a case is not suitable, we explain why and what the alternatives are.

How long do I need to stay in Istanbul?

Most patients stay three days. Day one is consultation, screening and planning; day two is the procedure; day three is the first wash and aftercare briefing.

Flights can usually be booked for the fourth day.

What is a hair transplant?

A hair transplant is a medical procedure in which hair follicles are taken from a donor area — usually the back and sides of the scalp — and implanted into thinning or balding areas.

Because donor follicles resist pattern hair loss, transplanted hair generally continues to grow in its new position. Suitability depends on donor capacity, hair loss pattern and medical evaluation.

How does a hair transplant work?

The procedure has two main stages: extraction and implantation. In extraction, individual follicular units are removed from the donor area, commonly using FUE. In implantation, grafts are placed with attention to angle, depth and distribution.

After healing, most patients experience an initial shedding period, followed by new growth that develops over several months.

What is DHI hair transplant?

DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) places follicles using an implanter pen, without creating pre-made incisions. This allows precise control of angle, depth and density.

DHI is particularly useful along the hairline, for unshaven procedures and for eyebrow work. Because it is slower, session sizes tend to be smaller than with FUE.

FUE or DHI — which technique is better?

Neither is universally better. FUE suits large sessions and broad coverage; DHI suits fine detail work where angle control matters most.

In practice most plans combine methods — DHI along the hairline and Sapphire FUE behind it for volume. The right choice depends on your donor characteristics and the area being treated, not on price.

Is a hair transplant permanent?

Transplanted follicles are taken from areas that resist pattern hair loss, so results are typically long-lasting.

However, native hair that was not transplanted may continue to thin over time. This is why the design is planned with future loss in mind rather than for maximum density today, and why ongoing medical management is often discussed.

When will I see results after a hair transplant?

Transplanted hairs typically shed within the first four to six weeks, which is expected and not a sign of failure. New growth generally begins around month three to four.

Density becomes visible by month eight, and the final appearance is usually reached between twelve and fifteen months. Individual timelines vary.

Does a hair transplant hurt?

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, so sharp pain during surgery is uncommon. Most patients describe pressure or mild discomfort rather than pain.

Afterwards, temporary soreness, swelling or tightness can occur and is typically managed with prescribed medication.

How long does recovery take?

Initial healing — crusting, redness and tenderness — usually improves within 10 to 14 days. Many patients return to routine daily activities within about a week.

Hair growth then follows its own cycle: early shedding, new growth from around month three, and maturation continuing up to twelve months or longer.

How should I sleep after a hair transplant?

Sleeping on your back with the head slightly elevated is generally recommended for the first 7 to 10 days, to reduce swelling and avoid rubbing the grafts.

A neck pillow or positioning guidance may be provided based on your case.

When can I wear a hat after a hair transplant?

In the first days, avoid friction or pressure on the grafts. A loose protective cap may be allowed early on, but regular hats are usually delayed until the grafts are more secure — commonly around 10 to 14 days.

Follow the exact timeline in your aftercare plan, as this varies by technique and healing response.

Is it safe to have a hair transplant in Turkey?

Safety depends on the clinic rather than the country. Ask who designs your hairline, whether you are medically screened before surgery, and who supervises anaesthesia.

At Hair of Istanbul every patient undergoes blood tests, an ECG, and review by a cardiologist and an anaesthesiologist before a date is confirmed. Patients found unsuitable are advised against the procedure.

Why do people go to Turkey for a hair transplant?

Turkey has high surgical volume, established clinics and lower operating costs than Western Europe or North America, which brings prices down without necessarily reducing clinical quality.

As with any country, quality varies between providers. Clinic licensing, doctor involvement and preoperative screening are what distinguish them.

How much does a hair transplant cost in the USA and UK?

In the United States, hair transplant procedures often range from $12,000 to $20,000. In the United Kingdom, typical costs are £9,000 to £15,000.

These figures usually exclude accommodation, medication and aftercare, which are included in Turkish all-inclusive packages.

Does insurance cover a hair transplant?

In most cases, no. Hair transplants are generally considered elective procedures and are not covered by standard health insurance.

Always confirm coverage details directly with your insurer, as policies vary by country and provider.

Do you treat women?

Yes. Female pattern hair loss, traction alopecia and hairline lowering are treated at our clinic, with planning adapted to female hairline anatomy.

Female patients are screened for underlying causes such as thyroid disorders, iron deficiency and hormonal factors before a procedure is considered.

Can a previous hair transplant be corrected?

In many cases yes. Revision work addresses unnatural hairline design, poor density, visible scarring or depleted donor areas.

It is planned separately because what can be achieved depends on how much donor capacity remains. Revision procedures are priced at €5,000.

Post-Hair Transplant Care

Aftercare is part of the outcome. Healing and the cosmetic result both depend on protecting the grafts, gentle cleansing, and following your personalised instructions.

Professional hair-care products may be introduced after the initial healing period, if and when recommended by the medical team. These can help maintain scalp comfort and reduce mechanical damage to native hair. Product selection and timing should follow your post-operative protocol.

If you experience sensitivity, itching or unusual redness, contact the clinic rather than treating it yourself.

Practical guidance: aftercare overview · the first 30 days · alcohol · sauna and heat · first haircut.
